چکیده

the adsorption of lead (11) and copper (11) in a fixed bed column using activated carbonprepared from nipa palm nut was investigated. thomas model and yoon and nelson kinetic models were used to analyze the column performance. the rate constant for thomas model increased with increase in flow rate and initial ion concentration but remained constant at varying bed height. adsorption capacity for the adsorption of copper (11) obtained from thomas model ranged from 3.417 to 17.224 mg/l for thomas model and from 3.02 to 11.92mg/l for yoon and nelson model. also the adsorption capacity for lead (11) adsorption calculated from thomas model ranged from 6.937 to 75.59 mg/l and from 12.10 to 47.24 mg/l for yoon and nelson model. the maximum adsorption capacity increased with increase in flow rate and initial ion concentration but decreased with increase in bed height. for yoon and nelson model, the rate constant increased with increase in flow rate, initial ion concentration and bed height. the time required for 50% breakthrough decreased with increase in flow rate, bed height and initial ion concentration. the kinetic data fitted well to both models. the comparison of the experimental breakthrough curves to the breakthrough profiles calculated by yoon and nelson method showed a satisfactory fit for activated carbon prepared from nipa palm nut.

Fixed Bed Column Modeling of Cd(II) Adsorption on Bone Char Using Backward Bayesian Multiple Linear Regression

In this work, the backward Bayesian multiple linear regression (BBMLR) as a new approach is presented to predict the adsorption efficiency (AE) of Cd(II) ions by ostrich bone char (OBC) in the fixed bed adsorption with four operational variables consisting of pH (2-9), inlet Cd(II) concentration (Co= 25-100 mg/L), bed depth (h= 3-9 cm) and feed flow rate (Q= 0.5-30 mL/min). The performance of t...

Modeling and Simulation of Fixed Bed Adsorption Column: Effect of Operating Variables

The kinetics in a fixed-bed adsorption system is explained using a mathematical model that takes into account of external and internal mass-transfer resistances with a nonideal plug flow behavior. The variation of fluid velocity along the column is an important aspect, which has not been accounted so far in these models. In the present study, a mathematical model is proposed for explaining the ...

Modeling and Simulation of Fixed bed Adsorption column: Effect of Velocity Variation

The kinetic behavior of a fixed-bed adsorber can be explained and the characteristic breakthrough curve of the adsorption phenomena can be obtained through mathematical models. In the earlier models, the kinetics is explained using a mathematical model that takes into account of external and internal masstransfer resistances with a nonideal plug flow behavior. The variation of fluid velocity al...

Experimental, Kinetics and Isotherm Modeling of Carbon Dioxide Adsorption with 13X Zeolite in a fixed bed column

In this work, zeolite 13X with porosity structure has been used as an adsorbent for adsorption of CO2 flue gas. The effect of operating conditions including pressure and time on adsorption capacity were investigated. The experiments conditions are constant temperature, the range of pressure 1 - 9 bar and the registration of adsorption capacity with passing of time. Experimental data were adjust...

Mathematical Modeling of Fixed Bed Adsorption: Influence of Main Parameters on Breakthrough Curve

Dynamic modeling and simulation of fixed bed adsorption process was carried out by explaining the behavior of breakthrough curve parameter. Adsorption of sulfur compound, present in road fuel, has posed a great challenge. A model of fixed bed adsorption of benzothiophene from fuel was formulated with non-ideal plug flow behavior and considered velocity variation along a column. The model was so...
